“The Move”

So I’ve made the decision to make ‘The Move’. It’s looking like it’ll be at the end of July. That’ll give me time to finish the show i’m in now (more on that below) and to wrap things up at home. ‘The Move’, of course, refers to a move to Los Angeles. My wife, Cyndi, and I are looking forward to this new chapter. It’s time to see what I can do.

I’m currently appearing in the Ensemble of Violet at Sierra Repertory Theatre in Sonora. We opened three weekends ago and are running for two more. We close on May 20th. It’s been a pretty positive experience, being my first ‘professional’ show (union actors, equity points) I can’t really compare it to anything else I’ve done. Unfortunately, the audiences haven’t been consistently big. Probably due to the fact that noone has ever heard of it.

For those who have never heard of Violet (which I’m guessing is a lot), it’s a great show. The music is incredible from start to finish, a mix of blues, rock, country, torch songs… all come together to tell a fantastic story. Music is by Jeanine Tesori, Book and Lyrics by Brian Crawley, based on The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts. Just FYI.

Speaking of Equity Points, these will be my first eight. I need what, 50 to join? Well, it’s a start. Of course, there’s always the off-chance I’ll land an equity contract and forego the whole points thing.

So, there’ll be more on ‘The Move’ in the days and weeks to come. In the meantime, I’ll keep talking to the L.A. actors in my current cast about being an actor in L.A. I figure the more I know before I get down there, the better. And I’ll keep reading actorsite until I can meet them too.

Cheers for now, and keep coming back…
