OK. It’s been a long time. Here goes:
We drove to L.A. in mid-July to find an apartment. After a few decent places and a few not-so-decent places, we arrived a half-hour early at an appointment in Hollywood. The building next-door was having an open-house, so us being early and looking for an apartment, we decided to take a look. Long story short, we took it. Yes, the building that we didn’t even have an appointment at ended up being the one we’re now living in.
Our apartment is great. We can’t conceive paying only as much as we do for the view we have. Which, by the way, is of the Hollywood Hills with the Hollywood Sign featured prominently out our window. We can also see Griffith Observatory. Back in San Francisco, this view would have tacked at least an extra 50% onto the price of the apartment.
So, on Monday the 30th of August, we packed up our U-Haul (after a very nerve-racking, ‘are-we-going-to-get-our-truck-today’ experience) and on Tuesday morning we rolled out of Baghdad by the Bay. My brother and his friend drove our car down and helped us unpack, in exchange for room, board and college tours for a week.
We made it to L.A. in really good time, for a U-Haul and finished unloading just shy of the building-mandated 9:00 cut-off time. (No using the freight elevator for moving past 9:00) And while there are still cardboard boxes tucked away in the closets, our apartment now looks like an apartment.
Now to work…
