Unemployed, kind of

Got back from Michigan last night around 9pm. My friend Barrett picked us up at the airport. Barret works at Universal Studios with me. Well, not with me. He’s got the sometimes glamourous job of being a studio guide (those chipper folk who talk to you while you’re riding around the backlot on a tram), while I’ve got the sometimes janitor job of Show Crew (the folks you don’t see who keep the Terminator terminating, the Waterworld show wet and Spiderman swinging).

Well, scratch that last one. Barrett told me that while I was gone, they decided to close the Spiderman show. I don’t work the Spiderman Show but that means that there are now nearly half as many crew positions on any given day, so those poor schlubs like me at the bottom of the roster are out of luck.

Of course, it’s really a blessing in disguise. The Spiderman show wasn’t really that good. Very cheesy. And I’m still technically employed there so I can call in to pick up sick calls. And it seems that extra work is somewhat picking up. I photo doubled today on NCIS and will again tomorrow. So here’s hoping I can support myself this season without having to get a real job.
